Can true love be defined? What is it?
Does it exist?
Is there such a thing as a relationship where two people can stand beside each other through thick and thin?
Or is that a bunch of BS?

I don't think it's BS. I think that today's view of love is BS though. True love is worked at, not fallen into. It's two people working together, no matter what. Sure, trials come, and storms, but if the two people involved are unselfish, it can turn out fine. Thing is, today, love is supposed to be instant, and it's masked by emotional games. True love has less to do with emotion than people want to admit.

It's not entirely bs I think the strength of any relationship will be defined by the way it survives the hard times. If it fails the cracks were probably emerging unseen and the ordeal just exacerbated a fragile situation.I'd say it does exist and I agree with Jesse about the effort involved.

Though I agree with the last two posters, I think true love can't be defined because it is a mystical happening that nobody can explain. Why do dumbasses marry Einsteins, and "ugly as sin" marry "prince (or princess charming?" I think love is celestial, and a little chemical, with maybe a little desperation thrown in for good luck.

True love ... I don't think it can be defined. For me it is a love where both are happy, a love that lasts a long time, maybe forever. But that doesn't go for everyone I guess.

yeah, exactly...True love definitely exists, but its impossible to offer a overarching definition, I believe that it's unique to every person...

It is very possible and today's culture and people's attitude can never achieve it. It can be defined but not in normal everyday language. You must have a philosophically metaphysical touch to it. I defined it in several other threads and so I won't include it here.
